For this episode, I’m joined by my good friend, David Falk (of https://workplaceconflict.ca) . David messaged me over the Christmas holidays and excitedly told me that he discovered what he’s a geek 4. I knew I had to have him on the podcast.

David recalls his 12 year passion of making ice trees for his front yard and all the experimentation he’s done with making them. He also describes the ice-making community he’s discovered and becoming “WInnipeg famous” for his creations.

David’s also starting selling kits for people to make their own ice trees (*water not inlcuded) and you can learn more HERE

In this final episode of 2020, I answer some more of your questions. i discuss how many fandoms might be too many; describe what I’ve learned about the things I love since doing this podcast; confess my love of an annual sing-along event (where I even dress up).

I talk about where I plan to take the podcast in the future and try to be honest about some of the struggles of doing this as a one-person show., particularly how hard I sometimes find it to ask people to be guests. (P.S. If you have something you’re a superfan for and would like to be a guest, please, let me know).

As I discuss, I’m going to be taking a few weeks off for the holidays, backl I will be back in the New Year for more conversations about things people are passionate about.

They got the mustard out.

This is from the Buffy/Dr Horrible Sing Along event. If you’re in Winnipeg, it’s great fun. The photo was taken by the ridiculously talented @elliana_allon. Follow her on Instagram.

Episode 015: Dr. Mandy Elliott Presents... Alfred Hitchcock

In this episode I'm talking to my friend and colleague, Dr. Mandy Elliott about her love of Alfred Hitchcock. Mandy explains how much delight her grandmother took introducing her and her younger sister to the films of Alfred Hitchcock. Mandy's grandma sounds like an awesome person.

Mandy and I discuss our own use of Hitchcock in the classroom, which films work well with University students and we talk a lot about Rear Window, especially Grace Kelly. We discuss Hitchcock's less appreciated British period, which is my personal favourite, spending a lot of time on The Lady Vanishes, particularly Margaret Rutherford and Charters and Caldicot (@ChartersandC).
