Episode 204: poetic license with Steve Bell and Malcolm Guite
I recently had the opportunity to host a public conversation with Steve Bell and Malcolm Guite about art and literature and the intersections with faith. Steve is an award winning singer-songwriter-storyteller from Winnipeg, MB. Malcolm is a priest and poet from the UK. These two friends have an infectious love of stories and songs and poetry. I knew that, if I got them talking about the art that influenced them and how they developed as artists themselves, I just needed to stay out of their way.
We talk about Shakespeare and Keats, Bruce Cockburn and Coleridge, and staying connected in the pandemic. I loved every single second of this conversation. At a time when most of us “feel thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread,” to quote Tolkien, this conversation was life giving.
I’m grateful Steve and Malcolm allowed me to share out talk on Geek4.
